About DISTRICT, a free simulation in immunization implementation science
DISTRICT is a free simulation in implementation science for immunization. You take charge of Kwara North, a fictional district where vaccination coverage is falling in four wards, and work out why children are being missed and what to do about it.
How it works
You enrol with your name, role and institution, then move through a briefing, five missions, a methods module and a final assessment. Each mission asks you to make the decisions a district team makes: read the data, choose a strategy, check whether it is delivered, judge what changed and make the case to sustain it. Your choices are scored, and feedback explains the reasoning. Your progress is saved on your device, so you can stop and continue later.
Course outline
- Briefing. Why zero-dose children mark a place where the health system did not reach a family, and how to calculate how many there are.
- Mission 1 · Identify. Context assessment with CFIR, equity analysis, missed opportunities for vaccination and root causes.
- Mission 2 · Reach. Matching implementation strategies to barriers with ERIC and COM-B, and co-designing responses with the people affected.
- Mission 3 · Monitor. Fidelity and reach, supportive supervision with routine data, and a review rhythm that turns data into decisions.
- Mission 4 · Measure. RE-AIM, implementation outcomes, contribution analysis, cost-effectiveness, and financial and economic cost.
- Mission 5 · Advocate. Stakeholder engagement, sustainability, and the difference between scale-up and scale-out.
- Methods module · Learning in Action. A cycle for studying implementation in your own district: find the root cause, co-design the response, then track and adapt.
- District Review Board. Nine challenges in a new district that bring all five missions together, followed by your certificate.
Every concept is explained in the Field Guide, which you can read without enrolling.
From DISTRICT to Mataki
DISTRICT builds the judgement. Mataki is the companion field tool where State and LGA Immunization Officers and their health workers assess barriers, plan strategies, track actions and review what worked, with their own data.
